James Edward Franco (Palo Alto, 19 aprile 1978) è un attore, regista e doppiatore statunitense. Ha iniziato a recitare nella serie televisiva "Freaks and Geeks" (1999-2000), raggiungendo la fama internazionale con il ruolo di Harry Osborn nella trilogia di film di Spider-Man diretta da Sam Raimi (2002-2007). Ha ricevuto il plauso della critica per la sua interpretazione nel film biografico "127 ore" (2010) di Danny Boyle, per il quale ha ricevuto una candidatura come Miglior Attore a Golden Globe, BAFTA, SAG Awards e Oscar. Nel 2013, ha ricevuto la sua stella nella Hollywood Walk of Fame. In campo televisivo, ha interpretato James Dean nel film "James Dean - La storia vera" (2001), per il quale ha vinto un Golden Globe.
