Il est principalement connu pour ses rôles de James T. West dans la série télévisée Les Mystères de l'Ouest (The Wild Wild West) de 1965 à 1969, et du major Greg « Pappy » Boyington dans la série Les Têtes brûlées (Baa Baa Black Sheep) de 1976 à 1978.
