Stephen Valentine Patrick William Allen war ein US-amerikanischer Fernseh- und Radiomoderator, Musiker, Komponist, Schauspieler, Komiker, Autor und Verfechter des wissenschaftlichen Skeptizismus. 1954 erlangte er nationale Bekanntheit als Mitbegründer und erster Moderator der „Tonight Show“, der ersten Late-Night-Talkshow im Fernsehen. Allen erlangte nationale Aufmerksamkeit als Gastmoderator in Arthur Godfreys Talentshow. Nach der Moderation der „Tonight Show“ moderierte er zahlreiche Spiel- und Unterhaltungsshows, darunter seine eigene „Steve Allen Show“, „I've Got a Secret“ und „The New Steve Allen Show“. Er war regelmäßiges Mitglied der Jury in der CBS-Sendung „What's My Line?“ und schrieb, produzierte und moderierte von 1977 bis 1981 die preisgekrönte Sendung „Meeting of Minds“ des öffentlich-rechtlichen Rundfunks, eine Reihe historischer Dramen im Talkformat.
