Eric Patrick Clapton, CBE, COAL (* 30. März 1945 in Ripley, Borough of Guildford) ist ein britischer Gitarrist, Sänger und Songwriter. Er trägt den Beinamen „Slowhand“. Clapton prägte die Entwicklung des Bluesrock seit den 1960er Jahren wesentlich mit und gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Blues- und Rock-Gitarristen. Mit mehr als 280 Millionen weltweit verkauften Tonträgern gehört er zu den erfolgreichsten Künstlern aller Zeiten. Er ist 17-facher Grammygewinner und als einziger Musiker dreifaches Mitglied der Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
